1. Cool Stuff You Can Do With Your Printer

A keepsake they’ll always treasure—a photo magnet of the blushing bride
In honor of all June brides, here’s a unique party favor or thank-you note insertion to give all of those who share your special day a souvenir to cherish forever. Every bride is beautiful on her wedding day, so what a perfect time to capture a special moment and put it on a magnetic card for display. We have 8-1/2" x11" magnet sheets and sheets that make business-card sized magnets that fit perfectly in thank-you notes.

What you'll need:
• Photograph
• A computer
• An inkjet printer

Step 1. Select a photograph. If you want to give away the magnet as a party favor at the wedding (and you’re superstitious about letting the groom see the bride before the special event), you may want to select a picture of you in your wedding gown. If you’re inserting the magnets into your thank-you notes, select a favorite photograph of the new Mr. & Mrs. from the wedding.
Step 2. Put the photo on your desktop and size to print. For example, if you’re using an 8-1/2" x 11" sheet and will custom size the photos yourself, then arrange the photos to best fit on an 8-1/2" x 11" layout. If you’re printing on business card sheets, then measure a sheet of the Color Labs Papers™ business-card paper you will be using and set your computer to create a template. (You will be printing out several cards at once on each sheet.)
Step 3. Lay out your photo on your computer so it will print correctly. (If using business card sheets, make sure the photo fits properly into each space on the sheet.)
Step 4. Print out a copy on plain paper. Make sure your printout lines up properly. Make any corrections necessary.
Step 5. After making all of your final adjustments, load your Color Labs Papers™ Photo Glossy Magnetic Business Cards or Color Labs Papers™ Photo Glossy 8-1/2" x 11" Magnet Sheets into the printer and print.
Step 6. Cut, if necessary, or separate individual photos.
Step 7. Send them out!

Bonus idea:
You don’t have to be a bride to use this Cool Stuff tip. Pictures of the kids, your favorite vacation destination, artwork, and inspirational quotations, anything you can print can become a beautiful magnet.

2. Get the Best Value Out of Your Printer and Ink

Should I print something out everyday to keep my printer working right?

Jim in Ohio sent in this tip, so I checked with our resident expert, Chris, to find out if he agreed.

Jim wrote, "I'm no expert on printers or ink, but I do have a suggestion for others who are not either. Try getting into the habit of printing something small every day. I've found this keeps my printer working smoothly and seems to keep the nozzles clean by not allowing ink to dry or harden over long periods of time without use."

What does Chris say: "Absolutely true. A good tip. It need not be absolutely every day, but several times a week would be just as good. Because you don’t want to waste valuable ink, it should be something little. It could be 4 lines of text each in a different color such as:

Roseanne in Arkansas cooked up a great addition to her daughter’s hope chest

"My 16-year-old daughter wanted a cookbook for Christmas. She has been collecting items for a hope chest for a couple of years and wanted to include a cookbook, but she wanted all of her favorite recipes to be included. Since I use several cookbooks I knew I wouldn't be able to buy her a single book with all the recipes she wanted, so I decided to make her one. I went through all my cookbooks and copied the recipes I knew she would want onto 4" x 6" cards using my computer and printer. I then bought a photo album that holds 4" x 6" photos and had columns for writing on each page. This was very convenient for me to write special memories about certain recipes and to comment on the ingredients when necessary. (Things she could substitute, or whether I varied from the original recipe in any way, etc.) I knew from the look on her face when she opened that gift, that it was the perfect cookbook for her and well worth the time and energy I spent putting it together!"
